Journal and Courier from Lafayette, Indiana (2024)

Local Journal and Courier, Friday, July 25, 2003. Assistant principal selected for CC By Emily Baldauf A familiar face in the Lafayette Catholic School System will serve as vice principal of the high school. Athletic director Michelle Sanson was selected as the new assistant principal at Central Catholic High School on Thursday morning. "Administration is something I've always wanted to do," said Sanson, who has served as the school's athletic director for Sanson the past year. The vice principal position has been open for the past year since some staff restructuring was done after longtime principal Dave Worland left to be the principal at Cathedral High School in Indianapolis.

Sanson has six years of experiin education a teacher, coach and athletic director. Before coming to Central Catholic, she spent four years teaching social studies at McCuthcheon High School, where she was the varsity girls golf coach and junior varsity girls basketball coach. She recently earned her master's degree in education administration from Purdue University. Continued from Page B1 been placed, some deciding to stay in the area, and one resident transferred to the new University Place. Radke said many employees also transferred to West Lafayette.

"This area has more opportunity," she said, adding that University Place is very different from typical retirement homes. "This is not like any retirement community," Walker said. "We want more of a hospitality or resort-like setting. If you take all of the burdens off of seniors, they live longer. It's just a new way of looking at aging." University Place has a legal agreement with the university that gives them Purdue's blessing to participate in university activities.

The Ishmael Center at Purdue staffed the fitness center at University Place, and the home offers many opportunities for internships. Walker said the landscape architect students at Purdue competed for the landscape design of the facility. She also said they are working with Purdue's school of nursing on a re-entry grant that helps nurses who have left the field return. They can work on the site of the retirement community to gain experience. "We were chosen because of our reputation for quality of care," Walker said.

Federico F. Flores, 26, of Willard, Ohio, was arrested on suspicion of possession of more than 30 grams of marijuana, dealing marijuana within 1,000 feet of a housing complex, maintaining a common nuisance and reckless possession of paraphernalia. The sheriff's department seized 248 grams of marijuana which had an estimated street value of $1,000 from a 2002 Oldsmobile Alera, from Ohio, parked at the Ramada Inn, 4221 Indiana 26 according to the department. Sheriff's deputies got a warrant to the vehicle after Clarks Hill canine Boyka alerted police to the presence of a narcotic odor and Flores refused consent to search the car, police said.

Police She also is a 1998 graduate of TriState University in Angola where she was earned her degree in social studies education. "I truly enjoy the students here, and I'm looking forward to being a part of the administrative team at Central Catholic," said Sanson, who also will continue as athletic director. Sanson added that she is also looking forward to working with Central Catholic's new principal, Bob DeLaRosa, who began July 14. DeLaRosa replaced former Central Catholic principal James Jovanovic, who resigned and vacated his position in January amid allegations of impropriety with students, which resulted in a criminal investigation. No charges were ever filed in that Lafayette Police Department investigation, and the case is officially closed.

DeLaRosa said he and Sanson are looking forward to the upcoming year despite challenges. "I can tell she shares a lot of the same goals and ideals we have for Central Catholic," DeLaRosa said. "For one, we want to in a sense bring back some of the glory of Central Catholic. We'll face our challenges, but from what I have seen she is a hard worker and has the best intentions and best ideas for making kids successful." About the center University Place is at 1700 Lindberg Road. There are three levels of continuing care: independent living, assisted living and health center care.
